This afternoon we have been learning about Friction. We had to decide which material would be the best to make a slide out of.
We did a fair test to find this out.
The less friction there is the faster the slide would be.
We only tested five different materials. Which other materials do you think would work well on a slide? Which would not be very good? Why?
This lesson was fun
I’m glad that you enjoyed it. Can you tell me two things that you learnt?
The plastic had low friction and the sand paper was high friction.
I think that metal would be a good material because it has a low
level of friction and it is strong.
I agree. Do you know which material the slide in your local park is made from?
Yes, I think it is metal.
Me too!
The slide in my local park is made from metal.
Many I have seen are made of metal. Which type of metal do you think it is? For example I doubt that it is aluminium as this is a soft metal which is why is it a great material for drinks cans.
I think the type of metal is steel or iron.
I think my local slide is made from steel.
I thought that too.
